With effect from Thursday 23rd July 2020 - Accessing the practice in light of COVID 19
Glan Rhyd Surgery is open from 8 am until 6.30pm Monday-Friday excluding public holidays.
The main practice door is now open although we are maintaining restricted entry. To the left hand side of the main doors, when facing the practice, we have marked 2m lines to indicate safe queuing measures. All patients will need to queue safely and may move forward as each patient is dealt with.
We have implemented information boards alongside the queue detailing where you should direct specific enquiries to and avoid a lengthy wait. Please read the board before joining the queue as this may save you some time.
We are directing all deliveries and other healthcare professionals to use our side door. Although this door has restricted access, a bell has been fitted to engage our attention.
We have created a pictorial to indicate what day your repeat prescription will be with your chosen pharmacy to minimise the number of enquiries we get at the practice. The pictorial can be accessed here.

Staff will be on hand to deal with all patients/visitors to the practice who will escort you safely into the practice when appropriate and safe to do so.
Attending for an appointment - Please join the queue safely and arrive no more than 5 minutes earlier than your specified appointment time. Please attend alone where possible. We can only allow a few patients into the practice at any one time so you may not be able to be seated in the practice straight away. If this causes you difficulty, please let one of our staff know. We encourage the use of face masks when attending the practice.
Staff will be wearing personal protective equipment. All patients entering the practice for a prebooked appointment will:
- have their temperature checked with an infra-red thermometer
- Be asked the following questions: Are you suffering from a new continuous cough? recently had a high temperature(fever)? experienced a loss of taste/smell?
Any patients who answer yes to any of these questions or have a temperature higher than 37.8 degrees celcius will be asked to return to their vehicle where possible and await further instruction. The staff member will speak to the clinician you are due to see that day who will make the appropriate decision. This will be fed back to you as soon as we are practically able.
Making an appointment - To minimise time in the practice, please telephone us on our usual number of 01495 301210 to make all appointments. You may email us at email@example.com for non urgent requests at which point we will contact you back to book.
Ordering repeat prescriptions - Please place your request form in the repeat prescriptions box to the left of the main doors. Alternatively you can register for My Health On Line and order these online or send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org
Handing in specimens/samples - Please hand to a member of staff when requested to do so
Collections - We strongly encourage all patients to receive letters/fit notes via the post to reduce the footfall at the practice. Prescriptions can be collected where absolutely necessary although we highly recommend our patients choose a pharmacy for collection purposes.
We are aware that some people are feeling worried about contacting their GP Surgery for advice and care, or contacting them much later than they would normally if they are unwell.
We want to assure you that your GP Surgery still expects and wants to hear from you if you need them- not just for Coronavirus related symptoms.
If you have any concerns please don’t hesitate to telephone your surgery, but please don’t turn up there in person. You will be offered a telephone or video call with the relevant Health Professional and only if they feel it is necessary, you will be invited in for further assessment.
If you have symptoms of Coronavirus and need to be seen, this will be in a designated area.
If you have a new, continuous cough and/or a high temperature and/or loss of taste and smell - or think that you may have coronavirus, DO NOT attend the GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital.
If you have the symptoms above, even if they are mild, you must stay at home and follow the national guidance. Everyone who lives in your house must also stay at home and follow this guidance.

You should only contact NHS 111 by telephone if;
- You feel you cannot cope with your symptoms at home
- Your condition gets worse
- Your symptoms do not get better after 7 days
- You do not have access to the internet and are unable to contact NHS 111 online
IF YOU ARE SERIOUSLY UNWELL OR SHORT OF BREATH AND NEED URGENT MEDICAL ATTENTION CALL 999
If you do not have symptoms you should follow the current government rules for everyone and only leave your house for very few reasons; such as; shopping for essential items such as food and medicine or a medical need. See government guidance for details. Even when you leave the house it is important that you:
- Stay 2 metres (6ft) away from other people
- Wash your hands for 20 seconds as soon as you get home
YOU CAN SPREAD THE VIRUS EVEN IF YOU DON’T HAVE SYMPTOMS.

How to get coronavirus support as an extremely vulnerable person
If you have a medical condition which makes you extremely vulnerable to coronavirus (COVID-19), you should have received a letter from the Chief Medical Officer. For more information go to this website
Testing and Contact Tracing
Members of the public who have symptoms of coronavirus - a new continuous cough, a fever, loss of smell or taste - can apply for a test within the first 5 days of having symptoms. If your test result is positive you will be asked to provide details of anyone you have been in close contact with so that they can also be tested. To apply for a test visit this website or telephone 119.

Remember that you can still ask for a GP appointment for a health problem not related to coronavirus. Please telephone the surgery for a telephone consultation.
